The menu's quaint conceit, "a slice of Nashville with a splash of Texas flavor," can hold its own against the quaint and the conceits nearby. Blocks away are downtown Grapevine, where everything old is trendy again, and the Gaylord resort complex, where everything new is trendy at the moment. The Back Porch Grill and Tavern embraces the durable charm of the old-timey, with its rustic, down-home look and careful attention to such fundamentals as an excellent chicken-fried steak. The closest we get to fusion is when peach cobbler and a scoop of vanilla ice cream run headlong to glory together.
"Back Porch Provides Country, Bluegrass Forum" Colleyville Courier - Friday, July 9, 2004 "Friends Rachel McGallian and Kim Newton, a singer and songwriter who lived in Nashville for several years, both moved to Grapevine because they liked the small-town feel and the historic downtown district..."

"Northeast After Hours" Fort Worth Star Telegram - Wednesday, June 30, 2004 "The Back Porch Grill & Tavern, a new restaurant at 210 N. Main St., is giving folks an earful of live music six nights a week. "We want it a little Nashville," said Rachel McGallian of Grapevine, who co-owns the restaurant with singer-songwriter Kim Newton, also of Grapevine. Bands perform at 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and songwriters' nights start at 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Sundays. "These are traditional songwriters' rounds, with each doing 15-or-20 minute sets and swapping out -- all original material," McGallian said. Grand Opening -- Back Porch Style -- June 17, 2004 The Back Porch Grill & Tavern will open its doors to the general public on June 8, 2004. We will be testin' the waters for a week or so before the big Grand Opening blowout! We will celebrate our Grand Opening in true Back Porch style. We couldn't resist the opportunity for an entire weekend full of Texas music and down-home cookin'. We will kick things off on Thursday, June 17th, with the official ribbon cutting event. Afterwards, folks will be invited to sit a spell on the back porch. Kim Newton will be singing a few of her originals before we kick off Thursday night karaoke. Then, on to the weekend! Friday and Saturday will bring a host of entertainers. Brian Raiders and The Texas Rebels will start us off in true Texas style on Friday night. Brenda Best and Rusti Rae are making the trip from Nashville to sing at The Back Porch Grill & Tavern on Saturday afternoon. And Dave Jorgensen is driving in from Austin to kick off the party on Saturday night. And on Sunday, this is the perfect place to bring good ol' Dad for Fathers Day. Trust us, Dad would much rather sit on the back porch, than open up another tie. Come on out and see us!
